I like to think of September as a soft start to fall. When the first of the months arrives, our cravings are oriented towards all cozy things: blankets, socks, hot drinks and activities to help us make the most of the transition inside. But October? She is in full flowering. By the time the month arrives, the air is crispy, the leaves have revolved and the rhythm of daily life feels more stable and cozy. After all, I am so soft that I live in a world where there are October. Are we all?

October is the month for soup over the stove, burning candles at all hours and the sweaters withdrew from storage. It is also when everything seems to accelerate: the school in full apogee, vacations on the horizon, why it is exactly why I love making an intentional list of things to do in October. Think about it less as a late task, and more as a soft invitation to kill, taste and full experience this season.

Small reminders for an inspiring October

To help him lean in October, we are weaving in some extras this month, as an indicator of the newspaper for reflection, a favorite reading of our subsport and one of the seasonal selections of our editors. Soft reminders to reduce speed, find inspiration and bring some beauty to everyday life.

A soft push: What is a ritual that could add to their October nights that would make them feel more restorative?

From breathing space: In “why some people seem fortunate,” Camille unpacks how discernment, presence and openness are often confused with luck, and how to notice the small and unexpected moments can change the way we live.

Election of the editor: “I could be more excited about soups, chiles and stews this fall, and I can’t use even more of my Dutch oven! I love mine from South the table, it is a battle horse that did not break homemade!” – Kristen Garaffo, design editor

31 things to do in October to celebrate the season

Next, we share our favorite things to do in October to help you live this month to the fullest. Take your favorite sweater and a cup of something warm: things are about to get comfortable.

October 1-5

1. Give yourself a whim with a cozy autumn candle. Is there a better season for candles? We think no. I am currently obsessed with the coffee with spicy pumpkin milk (it is a step forward of the basic and omnipresent aroma) and the Rubio Hinoki aroma of PF Candle Co.

2. Make a restart of autumn skin. The coldest climate requires additional care. An update of the autumn skin does not have to be complicated, it is nine easy, but luxurious steps, far from your best autumn skin.

3. Transition your breakfast for autumn. Ayurveda teaches us to bow in the ground connection, heating food when temperatures fall. Try the pumpkin oats during the night or a bowl or kitchhari for a cozy and nutritious beginning.

4. Go collect and prepare a apple cider lot. Apple’s season reaches its early maximum point, so make this a priority of the first week. Once he is at home with his journey, he slowly cook a pot of homemade cider on the stove, all his smell like autumn.

5. Surprise a neighbor with some baked products. Pumpkin spices, crispy apple or even a lot of muffins: seasonal sweets are such a sweet way to spread a little joy of October.

October 6-12

6. Change the funds of your phone and computer. A small change that makes a big difference. Choose an image that feels aligned with the way you want October to look and feel, or create a vision board in Canva that causes joy every time you open your laptop.

7. Declare your front porch with autumn decoration. Stacked pumpkins are always a yes, but you don’t need to stop there. Capa in flashlights, moms and a cozy launch for an entrance that feels warm and seasonal without striving too much.

8. A reading club begins with your friends. Being cozy does not have to be a solo activity. Gather your girlfriends, open a bottle of wine and submit yourself in one of Fall’s most anticipated books. Bonus: Combine it with a seasonal grazing board.

9. Heat your house with some new autumn releases. There is nothing better than snuggling under a blanket when temperatures submerge. The objective (as always) has our favorite options.

10. Bake the pumpkin bread (the better one). There are a million recipes, but we tried until we find our favorite forever. Save the camille pumpkin bread recipe: it is a classic that will return every October.

11. Organize a cook-off Chile. Our go-t? Chili-vegetarian black sweet potatoes and blacks and always a success. Invite your friends to bring their own versions for informal kitchen, and crowns a winner at the end of the night.

12. Go to an autumn walk with friends. Capa, come out and take the leaves while they are in their peak. Plan an early trail walk with friends and rewards with cider and cakes later.

October 13-19

13. Cook a seasonal dinner. Let the local products guide their menu. Think about the cozy paste dishes or a simple roast chicken with autumn vegetables. For inspiration, see our favorite autumn pan recipes, they are perfect for market cuisine to table.

14. Invest in a cozy autumn closet. Think of staples that will reach throughout the season: welcoming fabrics, a classic trench and boots that work for errands and afternoons. Our autumn capsule closet is a great place to start.

15. Train for a 5K. Even if you are not a corridor, enrolling in a local race is a very fun way to absorb the crunchy autumn air. Applications like Couch to 5K make the process feel accessible (and we dare to say … pleasant?).

16. Diy an incredible Halloween costume. Omits the last minute fight. Be inspired by our favorite Halloween costumes and be creative with what you already have in your closet.

17. Pass a weekend in a cabin in the forest. There is nothing more dreamy than waking up to fall into foliage outside your window. Whether it is a small house at a few hours or a cabin in the forest, a fast trip is the best restart.

18. Go for old purchases. Pass one Saturday wandering local stores with an autumn drink in hand. You will almost always go with something unexpected (and perfectly charming).

19. Have a marathon from the autumn movie. Increase in the blankets and work on their list of essential visits. If you need inspiration, mark our list of the best films to transmit this fall and start reviewing them.

October 20-26

20. Make s’mores at home. Who says you need a fire? Graham, Chocolate and Malvaviscos cookie layer in a pan and bake until bubbling. Bonus points if mixed with seasonal flavors: pumpkin spice chocolate, someone?

21. Make an autumn playlist. Some songs alone sound As autumn. For me, it is Gregory Alan Isakov, José González and Fleet Foxes. Press play whenever you want to feel immediately cozy.

22. Take a fabric or crochet project. Few things feel more satisfying than working with their hands as the weather cools. Start with a beginner kit, unique a local class or simply have time to advance a half project.

23. Have a weekly walking date. It is such an easy way to connect with a friend while drinking fresh air. Keep it simple: choose a neighborhood loop, bring a hot drink and let the conversation develop.

24. Plan an autumn date. Exchange dinner and a movie for something seasonal. Try the apple selection, cook together or work through our list of cozy ideas of autumn date.

25. Pass one morning all morning. Instead of squeezing on a few pages before bedtime, block a weekend morning only for books. Combine it with tea or coffee and let yourself stay longer than usual.

26. Tailgate in a football match. Group, pack a refrigerator and encourage your favorite team. Honestly, snacks could be the best part.

October 27-31

27. Invite friends for a bonfire. There is nothing like one night around the fire with hot drinks and s’mores. Make it a meal to keep things easy.

28. Make a slow fall of fall. Fill your home with the smell of autumn by cooking over low heat, cinnamon sticks, nail and slices of orange in the stove. It is the easiest way to make a cold day feel warm.

29. Make a night of puzzle. Gather your partner, family or roommates for a night or disconcerting. Put an autumn reproduction list, pour cider cups and let the slow rhythm or disconcert becomes your own son of the ritual.

30. Go to continue on vacation cards. Before the season is too busy, request stationery and schedule a date for family photos. Future you will be grateful for the head.

31. Carving pumpkins (and roasting the seeds). Make one night: stem the pumpkins with friends, then season and provide the seeds in the oven. Salado, crispy and the perfect snack of Halloween.
