Thousands attend Pope Francis’ funeral

Thousands of Mourters in St. Peter’s Square on Saturday morning for the Pope Francis’s funeral.

About 100,000 faithful observed how the Pope’s body was taken to the Plaza del Vaticano at 10 am, including the night spent the night sleeping in the concrete.

The guest list included President Trump and the first lady Melania; Prince William and Princess Kate; and Ukrainian President Volodyymyr Zenskyy.

The funeral ceremony follows the three days of public visualization of its body within the basilica, which remained open all night to stay in the herd of the internship of Mourters that had come to lend their final respect.

After the pontiff’s body was taken from a private vision in the Vatican, Francis’s simple wooden coffin was placed in a bowed ramp on the main altar of the 16th -century Basilica, in front of the banks not in an elevated beer as rental before.

The rupture in tradition was in line with Francis’s own wishes so that all rituals surrounding a papal funeral simplify and reflect the role of the Pope as a simple pastor, not as a world leader.

After his funeral, the Pope will be buried in a niche within the Major Basilica of Santa María, near his favorite Madonna icon.
