Unilever Sets Annual M&A Budget of €1.5 Billion With Priority on U.S. Deals

THE FACT THAT? Unilever CEO Fernando Fernández has said the company is allocating approximately €1.5 billion ($1.74 billion) annually to mergers and acquisitions, with a strong focus on opportunities in the United States.

THE DETAILS Fernandez revealed the figure at an event hosted by JPMorgan, noting that US assets represent a prime target area for future transactions. The announcement follows the formal spin-off of Unilever’s ice cream division, now trading as The Magnum Ice Cream Company, which began trading in Amsterdam on Monday.

After the separation, Unilever expects its operating margin in the second half to reach at least 19.5%. This compares with a reported margin of 18.5% when the ice cream division was still included in the group’s results.

THE WHY? The confirmed M&A allocation outlines Unilever’s capital deployment plans following the spin-off of its ice cream business and indicates the company’s geographic focus for potential transactions.
