Attendees to the cryptographic conference fail in the “basic situational awareness” and security measures, opening to the exploitation of bad actors that hide in the crowd in the events, says Crypto Exchange Kraken.
The Kraken security team pointed out a “worrying trend” or laptops and phones owned by popular cryptographic protocols that were unlocked and without guard at the tables at the events, such as “real -time wallet notifications,” Kraken’s security in June in June said.
“If you are in cryptography, your digital device is not just a phone or a laptop. It is a vault for you, your cryptography assets and the operation of your wider employer,” he said. “Always keep your devices near and blocked when you don’t use them.”
I perceived that basic security measures are partially important for the ingenuity of the conference, since the scammers also attend cryptographic events, and it is easy for them to build a cover story, register under false characters and seem to belong.
“Crypto, in essence, it is about being his own bank. And it is incredible to achieve the promise of financial freedom if their personal security and operational security are not prioritized above all,” he added perceived.
A tactic used by scammers while they are at a conference is “Juice Jacking”, where malicious USB load stations are used to install malware, steal data or exploit a public network, according to perceived.
He added that scammers can also easily falsify or compromise WiFi networks.
“Cryptographic events are full of highly technical people, including those with piracy skills. Only a bad actor is needed to exploit an unprotected connection,” he said.
QR codes can also be doubtful, and although I perceive that he has not seen any report that occurs in nature, but an exchange of stickers by a bad actor that replaces a legitimate QR code in marketing material with a false one could lead to compromised wallets.
“A safer approach is to use a burner wallet with limited funds specifically for conference activities. In that way, if something goes wrong, its main properties are still protected,” he said.
Cryptographic theft in rising person
Another problem that the Kraaken security team said is that some attendees have openly discussed their cryptographic profits and were careless to expose their personal information.
“One of the members of our team left his hotel room one night, several miles from a conference place, and found several attendees who discussed the high value trades while using the conference laces that included their name and their company.
“Even if you don’t think someone listens, someone very well could be. Be discreet to protect yourself and those around you,” he said.
