‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Episode 2 Recap: “Through The Valley”

Of course, it’s fine.

This is the great shocking episode of The last of us This season, I suppose, the one designed to get the viewer and generate “I can’t believe they did that!” buzz. The problem is that almost 12 years after the red wedding, that particular party trick takes place. I don’t care that this episode, only the second of the second season of the program, mate the main character of Pedro Pascal, Joel, and that is the problem. I don’t care, and I don’t care.

Battle things are fun enough. Yes, I question many of the tactical decisions taken by Joel’s brother, Tommy, defending his city of Jackson Hole from an infected horde that almost caught Joel to the patrol before the city. I am not sure how to “give four flame launching types and stop them in the middle of the street in front of a zombie horde that can almost overcome the horses” it was supposed to go even in the best of cases, for example. Meanwhile, the winter survival mechanism of the infected hibernar under a blanket of his own bodies does not, no no, no, no no, he cannot do not make them very well if everyone is thrown into the cold and the dough you get too close.

Logic failures like these are quite easy to ignore if you get enough good things in return, he thought. Here, you are still seeing a horde of fungus zombies carrying the snow, flying to pieces and burned and shot in the head and all those good things. Things go south when a large infected cave troll ignores the fortified and defended door of heavy length and simply crosses another part of the wall. (That is another carelessness by Tommy). After that, the zombies go crazy for the town, swarming their ramp defenders, until guard dogs help change the course. (Why not release them first? Who executes this operation, Pete Hegseeth?)

Tlou 202 Big Monster is going through

To the extent that anything novel or intelligent is done here, it is when you think of Jackson Hole, not Joel’s destiny, is the crux of the episode. The battles are normally the focal point of the episodes in which they take place, by the obvious reference that they are battles. Moreover, you would normally think that Abby’s character would participate in a long and elaborate hoax of Joel, maybe even having doubts, before his final confrontation. He is not the son of the things you see fifteen minutes from the first meeting of the characters.

But then it happens. Abby, the vindictive ex-firefly whose attempt to calm a patrol triggered the zombie outbreak, is rescued by Joel. (After all, it is a small world). Once he takes him back to the shelter where she and her friends are locked up, he transmits the word to her comrades that Joel is Joel. The fall and his partner Dina, whom they knock out with a syringe full of something.

Then Abby shoots Joel on his leg, who has his friends tied with a tourniquet. She prepared to cry on the shattered bone exposed with a golf club, then hit her on the head and face with her naked hands.

At this point, Ellie has arrived, but Abby’s gang grabs it before she can do something. While Ellie shouts and cries and begs him not to do it, Abby grabs the broken axis of the golf club and stabs Joel in the neck with him, killing him. Abby and the gang depart, leaving Ellie, Dina and Jesse, who arrive too late to help, to drag Joel’s body to the burning and covered streets of Jackson Hole’s bodies.

Of course, it’s fine.

Tlou 202 Final Horses Shot dragging the body

That is my reaction, honest to God. I hope it was “Saint Shit!” Honestly, I would prefer that it is “Ugh, this shit stinks”, even. At least then I would feel question.

But I don’t know what writer Craig Mazin and director Mark Mylod want from me lord. For Joel’s death to land as it is supposed to, a partial list of films and television programs, I think it is better No Having seen first includes at least four specific episodes of game of ThronesThe most famous episode or BathtubBoth Dawn of the deadS (Romero and Snyder), The Walking Dead, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, Leon The ProfessionalMaybe Casino If you want to be generous … unfortunately, I have You saw all those things, and you have probably also seen some. Nothing that we obtain in this episode rises above the level of remix thesis in the best case.

And the writing that surrounds death is terrible. I do not know what is derived from the source material and what is original for the program, but this is why people use the phrase “video game” as pejorative. Abby is an absurd villain who speaks, whose cartoon sadism eliminates any temptation that may have to take his side in the question of how justice should be for Joel. His opportunity to meet with Joel is the material of which gender narratives are made, and I would disagree with the fact that he feels like a shortcut to conclude a story in the next chapter of the game.

If you want your post-apocalyptic horror itching Ice-Zombie Sunday-Night, it scratched as fast and clumsy as possible, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes The last of us Will serve. But you can surely do better.
