Welcome to Achievement: The FBI agents arrested a Milwaukee County judge this morning for serious crimes to interfere with immigration agents, since the Trump administration takes energetic measures against local officials who threaten progress in the agenda of the IT operation.
What happened exactly? Last week, the federal agents arrived at the Chief of Wisconsin of Judge Hannah Dugan to judge Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, a Mexican citizen who faces positions of domestic violence. Dugan is accused of sending the agents and allowing Flores-Ruiz to leave a non-public side, although he was quickly arrested anyway. Today, federal agents were in court again, this time to judge Dugan.
Is this unprecedented? Not quite. The Trump administration arrested a Massachusetts judge in 2019 for charges of obstructing immigration officials, but The charges dropped In 2022 after the judge agreed to refer to a state review board.
What is the general panorama? There is a long tension between the federal immigration application and local courts, since local officials argue that immigrants will not attend courts unless they can do it without fear of deportation. Some municipalities, sometimes called “Sanctuary cities”, official limit of local cooperation with the federal immigration application.
Trump has issued a Executive order Asking the agencies that stop federal funds for those cities, an order in which a Federal Judge largely blocked the Thorsday. Now, in the case of Milwaukee, the administration threatens officials with personal consequences if they work to hinder federal deportation efforts.
What is the big question? If the loading document is necessary, Dugan went beyond non -cooperation to actively complicate a trial. But that line can become blurred, and it remains to be seen if the administration will comply with the threat of Trump of Local officials who refuse to align.
