A Catholic Church in Queens was wrapped in flames less than 24 hours before the faithful meet for the Easter Mass.
The fire broke out in the parish of the Church of the Blessed Trinity in 204-25 Rockaway Point Blvd. just before 2 pm on Saturday, according to the FDNY.
In total, 33 units and 138 Fire personnel and EMS responded to the fire of three alarms, which seemed to cross the first and second floor of the squatting building, break several windows and take part in the church roof.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while fighting the flames, and one is transported to the Episcopal Hospital of St. John. The other rejected medical care, according to the department.
There were no other wounds, and the fire was controlled at 3:40 pm, said the FDNY.
The historical church, which was founded in 1937, was scheduled to organize an worship at 10:30 am on Sunday, according to the website of the blessed Catholic parish of the Trinity.
The parish did not immediately respond to the consultations.
