A man that the police said he was “erratic” and bit an officer duration of his trial suffered a medical emergency and died in custody on early Sunday, according to the authorities.
A Fullerton police officer first saw the man around 12:31 am after closing hours in Lemon Park, according to a press release from the department. Police said the man seemed to be holding a burning cardboard box and “was acting erratic.”
As more officers arrived, police said, the man became not very cooperative and begged to resist physically. More officers were called to provide assistance and, according to the department, several of them were needed to obtain control of man and place it in reintinations.
Police said that as the officers were stopping the man, hey, “violently bit an officer in his arm causing injuries.”
The Fullerton Fire Department responded to treat both the suspect and the officer. Several minutes later, according to the statement, the sentence seemed to have a medical emergency. Police said the paramedics gave rescue measures and the man, which has not yet been identified, to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.
The officer who was bitten was treated in a hospital and discharged, according to the department.
The investigators of the Orange County District Prosecutor’s Office responded for independent investigation into death, according to the Police Department.
