Kathy Hochul, Letitia James join lawsuit against Trump over tariffs in latest clash with prez

New York officials joined a lawsuit against President Trump’s tariffs on Wednesday, with Governor Kathy Hochul calling rates a tax increase that is stirring the “economic chaos” in the United States.

Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James said that the state of the Empire joins a legal action with another 11 states in an attempt to fight against the Trump administration that slapped tariffs worldwide.

“The reckless tariffs of President Trump have fired the costs for consumers and unleashed economic chaos throughout the country. New York is defending the greatest increase in federal taxes in US history,” said Hochul.

The states want a court to stop tariffs, including the prevention of the possible president in the future with the tariffs that were arrested earlier this month, authorities said.

“The president does not have the power to increase taxes on a whim, but that is exactly what President Trump has been doing with these rates,” James said in a statement.

“Donald Trump promised that he would reduce prices and relieve the cost of living, but illegal thesis tariffs will have the exact opposite effect on US families.”

James, Democrat and Nemesis of Trump, faces a criminal reference of alleged mortgage fraud, accusations he has called without foundation.

A new reference rate of 10% in most imports remains in place, while massive “reciprocal” tariffs are waiting for now to allow 90 days of negotiations.
