Miami, Florida – in the first and only practice session at the Miami Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz Jr. saw the potential in Williams.
In the Saturday classification session, he could finally “unleash” that potential.
Sainz broke into the Q3 and put the FW47 in the third row, since he described the sixth for the Miami Grand Prix. Speaking with the media, including SB Nation, After qualifying, the driver described how happy he was not only with the qualification performance, but in Williams in general.
“Yes, yes, very happy after a very torn weekend, both on the operational side and on the driving side where many errors are happening of both the team and my side, where we were scratching our heads and, ‘how can we be so fast, but at the same time they make so many mistakes in two or three sessions?’
“We fix them to press the restart button and manage to show the potential that we have had the two or three previous sessions.
“Very happy with that, very happy with the ability to press the restart and go again, and happy to finally unleash the potential that I saw in FP1 and QUALI yesterday to put the car in P6 only three ttthes away, Verhyah, far away, Verhyh, far, far, far, far, far away.”
When asked if the result was encouraging, Sainz declared that, although the track could adapt well to F47, being so close to the Pole Position gives him the “will to develop” the car for the rest of the season.
Even if that is not the plan.
“I think that to be three tenths outside the pole, we must be doing things well this weekend.
“I think it could be a bit atypical in which this track seems to adapt quite well to the car because from FP1 the balance and everything fell into the window and at the optimal point,” Sainz continued. “But at the same time, when I see those three tenths at the top, my will to develop this car is there because I know perfectly where this car, at the time you put it in the wind tunnel and try to point to the two or three areas that I have been telling the team where there is much more potential, and if the team manages to give me that, I think we could do a very large quality quality.
“But the plan is the plan.
“We are not going to do that.
“We will focus on next year and put all the eggs in that basket, but obviously, that potential that I see especially in my sixth race to be three dyes is encouraging.”
Just although Sainz sees the potential in this year’s challenger, he is trusting the plan, process and vision of the patient of James Vowles for the future. Only if it is good to press for more improvements for this year’s challenger.
“I like [James Vowles] Because he is a very clear man [vision].
“It has a plan and will compromise 100%.
“Trust your feelings, your plan, your project.
“And support it.
“That is why I committed to James as an individual, but also as a Williams team because I see a very clear project and ambition, very clear objectives, and we need to commit to them and follow them.
“Hello, he also promised that this year’s car would be an improvement for last year and until now a leg is his leg and I am slippery that goes in the right direction.”
Until now, that vision has Sainz, as he pointed out many times when he spoke with us, since the event was established here in Miami, three tos from the pole position, in just his sixth career in the FW47.
The driver could be right when trusting the plan.
