Panama City mayor teases Bitcoin reserve after meeting El Salvador’s Bitcoin leaders

The mayor of the city of Panama, Mayer Mizrachi, has insinuated to establish a Bitcoin reserve at the city level in a cryptic position after their meeting with two or the Bitcoin policy leaders of El Salvador.

“Bitcoin Reserve,” Mizrachi wrote to X on May 16 after meeting Bitcoiners Max Keizer and Stacy Herbert, based in El Salvador.

Although Mizrachi did not share details about his discussions with Keizer and Herbert, the moment of publication occurred 11 days before the 2025 Bitcoin Conference in Las Vegas, where Mizrachi is scheduled to speak.

The creation of a Bitcoin reserve in Panama City would follow a recently approved measure that allows the use of cryptographic for public payments, including taxes, fines and mutable rates.

Bitcoin (BTC), Ethher (ETH), Tether (USDT) and USDC (USDC) will be accepted once the payment rails are established to fatality, Mizrachi said at that time.

To press for a Bitcoin reserve at the federal level, Mizrachi would need to collaborate with the National Assembly of Panama to create a legislation.

There is no evidence to suggest that such measures have tasks.

The publication of Mizrachi follows the recent promulgations of two Bitcoin reserve invoices in the United States of Arizona and New Hampshire.

According to reports, Ukraine also approaches Bitcoin’s adoption as an asset of the National Reserve, local media reported at the beginning of the month.

Mizrachi, Keizer and Herbert discussed Bitcoin Mining, Education

A Keizer publication suggests that the trio talked about how Panama and El Salvador can take advantage of renewable energy to reinforce their mining Bitcoin operations.

“Bitcoin is transforming Central America. The geothermal of El Salvador and the Panama Electric Hydro will feed the Bitcoin Revolution.”

Herbert also pointed out that Panama City will integrate the “What is the money” of El Salvador? Financial education textbook in your online library system.

Keizer and Herbert have played a crucial role in the creation of the Bitcoin policy of El Salvador, which includes a Bitcoin reserve consisting of O 6,179 Bitcoin (BTC), in the form of $ 640 million.

Keizer serves as Bitcoin advisor to President Nayib Bukele, while Herbert directs the country’s Bitcoin office.
