The distance corridor becomes the last Kenyan to be provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit

Sheila Chelangat, who won the Half of Istanbul 2024 and was in second place in this year’s edition, has been suspended by the use of EPO.

The Kenyan got into seven seconds or the best personal set of a half marathon of 66: 06 in Valencia in October in the Turkish city last month. He also recorded 66:47 in his victory in Istanbul last year.

Chelangat is predominantly a road corridor, but Kenya repeated at 10000m at Tokyo Olympic Games, placing 16º with 31: 48.23 in the Japanese capital.

AIU has provisionally suspended Sheila Chelangat (Kenya) for the presence/use of a prohibited substance (EPO)

A talented Junior athlete, Chelangat secured a bronze medal more than 3000m in the U18 2015 World Championship and ended sixth in the distance in the 2016 U20 World Championship.

The 27 -year -old is the third Kenyan, the other two who are Ronald Kimeli Kurgat and Kibiwott Kandie, to be suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) by doping this year.

Chelangat could face a legal prohibition of sport if he is governed to have used EPO. A forbidden substance, synthetic erythropoietin is prohibited by the world anti -doping agency as red blood production increases, thus increasing oxygen to the muscles.

For the context, the Kenya Emmaculate Anyango Achol was prohibited by the AIU for six years last November for the use of testosterone and EPO.
