From Olaplex to EightFold Inc and Next8, this visionary leader is reshaping haircare and skincare with biotech-driven brands and strategic innovation
Edward “Ed” Connaghan is a global beauty industry powerhouse with more than 30 years of experience across haircare, personal care, fashion, and advertising. Born in Perth, Scotland, he earned an MBA in International Marketing from the University of Edinburgh between 1987 and 1989. Over the years he has built a reputation as a brand architect, growth strategist, and biotech evangelist who drives transformative change in salons and retail channels.
Building the Olaplex Phenomenon (2014 to 2018)
In 2014, Ed became co-founder and Head of International at Olaplex, the company founded by Dean Christal that developed patented bond repair chemistry. Under his leadership, Olaplex expanded from a boutique salon treatment to a global staple, launching in more than 130 countries. The brand’s valuation soared and ultimately led to its public offering in 2021.
Steering K18’s Biotech Growth (2020 to 2024)
After leaving Olaplex, Ed took on the role of President at K18 in 2020. K18 was gaining attention for its biotech peptide based hair repair treatments. During his time there, the company launched a direct to professional distribution strategy. Revenue growth accelerated and the viral #K18results campaign on TikTok generated over 11 billion organic views . Ed’s strategic leadership cemented K18’s position as a biotech disruptor in the haircare industry.
Launching EightFold Inc: Championing Independent Brands
In 2005 Ed founded EightFold Inc in Dallas as a consultancy and incubator to support independent beauty and biotech brands. As CEO and Founding Partner he provides brand strategy, global distribution and supply chain systems through a vast network, making it possible for emerging brands to reach over 130 markets. His expertise spans salon segmentation, strategic partnerships, and scientific product development.
Next8 Investments and Matter of Fact (2024 to Present)
In late 2024 Ed and his wife, Denise Russell, launched Next8 Investments, an incubator focused on biotech beauty. In November 2024, they acquired Matter of Fact, a US skincare brand using 11 patent-pending biotech technologies and featuring a Brightening + Firming Serum. With plans for a global rollout, the brand is often described as “tipped to be a skincare unicorn,”. Matter of Fact’s acquisition reflects the Connaghans’ mission to support biotech beauty founders through scientific and commercial infrastructure.
