Safer Supervision Act aims to fix federal criminal justice bureaucracy

There is no doubt: President donald trumpThe Public Safety approach has been successful.

His no-nonsense stance in favor of law and order has raised his approval ratings and made fighting crime his most important issue. More than half the country supports his approach. Americans are fed up with the lawlessness that Democrats allowed to fester in our cities and are relieved to see someone fighting against the lawlessness.

In addition to getting criminals off the streets, the Trump administration must also ensure that we have somewhere to put them and manpower to keep an eye on them. This means taking on a bloated federal criminal justice bureaucracy that spends too many resources on the wrong people.

Instead of focusing on violent threats, the existing system wastes energy, manpower, and money focusing on low-risk people who pose no threat to anyone. If we are serious about crime, we must be tough on the front and clever behind. This means using our law enforcement resources to keep Americans safe, reduce inflation, and provide ways to ensure second chances for those who deserve them.

TRUMP’S CASHLESS BAIL REFORM IS A GOOD FIRST STEP. THERE ARE 5 MORE WE NEED RIGHT NOW

Trump made great strides in improving our prison system during his first term with the passage of the Law of the first step. Reduced overly harsh sentences for thousands of low-risk, nonviolent inmates. It also increased educational and job training programs for prisoners who are serious about creating a better, law-abiding life for themselves upon release. Recidivism fell from more than 50% to less than 10%. This means that fewer people who left prison committed new crimes and instead began to rebuild their lives.

The First Step Law was just that: a first step. There is still much work to be done to ensure that dangerous criminals are caught and brought to justice, and that non-violent people can become productive, law-abiding members of society. This is where the Safer Supervision Act comes into play.

The current federal oversight system It is defective. Specifically, federal post-prison monitoring, known as supervised release, has become a costly and counterproductive bureaucracy. Originally designed for high-risk cases, it is now enforced in almost all cases. Federal probation agents report they are buried under a caseload of more than 100 people. This makes it impossible to focus on genuinely dangerous individuals. Furthermore, this unique system creates unnecessary obstacles for nonviolent people trying to keep their jobs and reintegrate into society.

CHICAGO RESTAURANT OWNER CRITICIZES CITY’S LEADERSHIP ON CRIME: ‘WE WANT LAW AND ORDER’

Picture this: A man misses his bus and is late for a mandatory meeting. Instead of spending the day tracking down violent threats, a federal probation officer spends hours processing a rape report from someone who poses no danger to anyone. Multiply that by hundreds of low-risk cases and you start to see how a system designed to keep America safe is doing just the opposite.

Trump is exactly the right leader to cut red tape and fix the overstretched federal oversight system, and the Safer Oversight Act offers a rational, common-sense solution. It ensures that scarce police resources are not wasted on paperwork while real threats walk free. It also returns federal oversight to its original purpose: focusing on what is truly dangerous.

the invoice requires courts to conduct individualized evaluations to determine whether supervision is necessary and what rules and restrictions are needed to keep our communities safe of threats. Importantly, it creates a path for those who have proven themselves to exit supervision. This would free up officers to focus on the real bad guys.

These reforms build on the successes Republican-led states like MissouriSouth Carolina and Arizona. And this approach was just validated by a groundbreaking study published in August by the Iowa Department of Corrections. It found that rewriting rigid parole rules into collaborative goals allowed people to work with their parole officers to achieve stability. This reduced the number of people returning to prison by more than 25%. Most importantly, the study found that these changes led to a decrease in new crimes.

Trump is exactly the right leader to cut through red tape and fix the overused federal oversight system, and the Safer Oversight Act offers a rational, common-sense solution.

That’s why the Safer Supervision Act has earned the trust of those on the front lines. For example, the Major Cities Chiefs Association has supported the bill because its members know it will keep our communities safe.

Trump and the Republican Party have a great opportunity to continue making America safe again. The Safer Supervision Act is America First’s leadership in practice. It would reduce crime, respect taxpayers, reward accountability, and unleash one of the most overlooked solutions to our jobs crisis: supervised Americans who want to work but are held back by an overly restrictive system.

Americans deserve safe communities, responsible government and second chances for those who deserve them. Passage of the Safer Supervision Act will improve safety, increase the workforce, and strengthen families. It fits perfectly with President Trump’s vision of America’s golden age.
