If the fashion of 2025 had its own version of Spotify Wrapped, the highlights would be unmistakable. Fringe, lace, suede and satin would top the texture charts, while zebra, bandana and fair isle would top the print rankings. Warm yellows, soft browns, pastels and lots of burgundy would complete the color palette. And as I look ahead to the fashion trends of 2026, I keep coming back to how 2025 shaped my own style: more intention and less impulse, repeated loafers and, yes, going overboard with jumpsuits.
We all know that the world of fashion lives in the future. The fashion trends of 2026 were laid out months ago and designers already know what will fill our carts next fall. But before we get too far ahead, it’s time to study next year’s fashion forecasts and carefully prepare our wardrobe.
Most trends can be recreated with basics, second-hand finds, and a little creativity.
Key trends to invest in
Trends come and go, so nothing here requires a new purchase unless it feels aligned with your personal style. Most trends can be recreated with basics, second-hand finds, and a little creativity. When I set out to style each of these looks, I was surprised to learn that I already had the perfect pieces in my wardrobe; all it took was a combination and unexpected layers.
If you plan to invest in the style trends of 2026, let it be something that will still look relevant in 3 to 5 years and choose a quality that will last for the same time.
Fashion trend predictions for 2026

Beltless belts
You heard it here first. This will be the accessory moment of 2026 fashion trends: anything tied, wrapped or draped around the waist that isn’t a traditional belt. Think hip-knotted scarves, rope belts, leather corset silhouettes and delicate chains. They add instant personality and transform the simplest outfit – a Canadian tuxedo becomes more intentional and stylish with this small change. It’s an easy trend to adopt because it only requires a single accessory that matches almost everything else in your closet.

Turn up the volume
The fashion trends of 2026 are taking shape. Balloon jeans, sculptural sleeves and voluminous dresses are making waves, and while they may seem daring, the payoff is worth it. Volume, when carefully placed, becomes incredibly flattering. Both bell skirts and balloon pants naturally sculpt a cinched waist, and arched sleeves offer the same flattering approach: subtly drawing the eye inward for a beautifully defined silhouette. I would never have thought of styling scooped jeans with scooped sleeves, but I loved how this look slimmed my figure in all the right places.

Avant-garde preppy
Rugby jerseys returned in 2025 and the resurgence of preppy style continues in 2026 with a new attitude. Classic stripes and collars remain in rotation, but when paired with black sunglasses or structured accessories, the look becomes sharper. (Think preppy city girl.) Loafers and socks remain a staple style movement, and because this trend resurfaces every few seasons, it’s a safe and timeless place to invest. This White & Warren sweater has been a key piece of my 2025 wardrobe and I’m confident it will continue to stand the test of time.

primary colors
As a color lover, 2026 seems like my time to shine. The deep browns and reds of 2025 are giving way to a brighter, more expressive palette. Primary colors (and their secondary siblings) are taking center stage. Expect vivid blues, earthy yellows, cool kelly greens, and true reds. Bonus points for layering them all like I did with these navy and red sweaters. For minimalists, this trend can still fit right in through accessories or small pieces paired with tried and true neutrals.

Outerwear is in fashion
Living in California and Texas, outerwear has never been the focal point of my wardrobe. But 2026 is changing that. Jackets will not only provide warmth to an outfit, they will define it. Military silhouettes, capes and funnel neck styles are leading the trend. These pieces offer longevity and are great alternatives to statement blouses; Pair a strong jacket with your everyday base layers and you’ll instantly have a new look. I bought this fringe cape and it has already proven to be a staple: warm, fashionable, but still neutral.
