The midweek sessions at the European Athletics Championships will provide a fantastic athletics experience next summer.

It’s easy to assume that some of the best athletics at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham in 2026 will occur over the weekend. But this is not always the case and there are great spectator experiences to be had during the morning and mid-week sessions.

⚑ Monday August 10 (morning) – Imagine how exciting it will be to watch the inaugural championship events when the action begins on day one. At London 2012, Jess Ennis-Hill broke a British record in the 100m hurdles on the opening morning of the athletics programme, and Birmingham 26 saw similar fireworks with heats in the women’s 100m and 400m hurdles, as well as the men’s 400m and 800m.

πŸ”₯ Tuesday August 11 (morning) – Keely Hodgkinson and Georgia Hunter Bell are likely to be in action in the women’s 800m heats. There are also heats for the men’s 100 meters and qualification for the men’s high jump and discus.

πŸŽ† Wednesday, August 12 (morning) – When combined events take place, the action in the stadium is always busy. In this session the decathlon will begin, while women’s sprint fans will be able to enjoy the first round of 200 and 400 meters.

πŸŒͺ️ Thursday, August 13 (afternoon) – this mid-week evening session promises to shine. Not only do we have Molly Caudery going for gold in the women’s pole vault, but there is also the possibility of Dina Asher-Smith vs Amy Hunt vs Daryll Neita in the women’s 200m final and Max Burgin and Ben Pattison, among others, in the men’s 800m final. If we add to this the climax of the decathlon and the women’s triple jump and 3,000 m steeplechase finals, it could be one of the best sessions of the entire championship.
