Health technology giant TriZetto has confirmed that more than 3.4 million people’s personal and health information was stolen in a cyberattack in 2024, which the company was unable to detect for almost a year.

The technology company, owned by multinational conglomerate Cognizantserves around 200 million people in 875,000 healthcare providers across the United States, according to its website. Physician offices and healthcare providers use TriZetto to evaluate patients’ insurance for medical treatments.

TriZetto said in a presentation to the attorney general of Maine Friday that hackers stole patients’ insurance eligibility transaction reports from the company’s servers.

The data includes personal information such as patient names, dates of birth, addresses, and Social Security numbers, as well as information about your health care, such as your provider’s name, demographic data, and health and insurance details.

TriZetto said it identified the breach on October 2, 2025, but later discovered that the hackers had access as early as November 2024.

A Cognizant spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment, including why it took the company a year to detect the breach.

Several organizations have confirmed that their patient information was compromised in the cyberattack. One of these is OCHINa nonprofit consulting firm that provides health technology to approximately 300 rural and community care providers across the United States. Other healthcare providers in California have also confirmed this.

According to TriZetto, not all customers were affected by the breach.

TriZetto is the latest major healthcare technology company to confirm a hack in recent years.

By 2024, a ransomware attack on Change Healthcareanother healthcare technology giant that processes some 15 billion healthcare transactions, allowed hackers to escape more than 192 million patient records. The cyberattack caused outages across the United States, leaving many without access to medical treatment or medication.
