San Jose – A fire captain of San José was arrested on Thursday under suspicion of stealing controlled substances from at least one fire station in the city, according to the authorities.
On Monday, the San José Fire Department reported the discovery of several drugs in their custody that were potentially damaged or manipulated, said a San José police spokesman.
Preliminary investigation confirmed that multiple substances had been manipulated and it was found that some disappeared, according to the police. The detectives identified the San José Fire Captain, Mark Moalem, as the main suspect and obtained search and trial guarantees.
The additional evidence that Moalem links with the robbery was to found a search in his home, police said.
Moalem was hired in the Santa Clara County prison for charges that include robbery and children’s danger, as well as for narcotics -related crimes, according to the police.
The Fire Department made an audit of its controlled substances, and it is suspended that drugs can have leg tasks of an addition of 16 fire and manipulated stations, said the officers of the administrator of the city of San José and the mayor in a joint statement.
“The lives defend the ability of our firefighters to administer emergencies of medical care, so we take theft of extremely seriously controlled substances,” said Mayor Matt Mahan. “I am grateful to our city administrator and police chief for acting quickly and decisively opening an investigation and holding that response.”
The city administrator, Jennifer Maguire, added that “will not tolerate criminal behavior.”
“The accusations are deeply worrisome and represent a serious violation of public confidence,” he said. “I want to be unequivocal: any behavior that endangers the security of the community or socve The integrity of our public institution will be addressed with the greatest seriousness.”
