The World Mountain and Trail Championship of 2027 has been awarded to Cape Cabo, South Africa.

There will also be a variety of land, from resistant technical roads to fast ancestry, offering a diverse and challenging experience for runners of all levels. One of the greatest rewards will come in the form of incomparable panoramic views of the city, the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding mountains.
The World Mountain Running championship began in 1985 and was an annual element, while 2007 saw the World Trail championship. The two events merged in 2021 to become the World Mountain and Trail Running championship and the event changed to a biennial format with the first edition held in Chiang Mai, which was postponed for one year.
The 2023 edition was a hero in Innsbruck and Stubai, while this year’s championships will take place in Canfras-Pirineos, Spain, between September 25-28.
There are four senior championship races with individual and team medals granted in each: classic (up and down), uphill, short and long path. Together with a U20 championship race, there will also be mass participation and parallel events, allowing amateur runners to experience the emotion of the event.
It is estimated that around 1200 runners of more than 80 nations will compete in the championship races in 2027, while more than 2000 runners will lead to the starting line for mass participation events.
