Women’s High Jump in Stockholm

It is easy to think that the height jump is just a group of people jumping in turn and that it jumps higher. And at one level, but there is much more in terms of strategy and intrigue, in which the height starts and white to take each bar. In simple terms there were 9 bridges in Stockholm. Six cleared 1.91 but failed in 1.93, leaving the first three to dispute the “medals.”

Olysagers and Mahuchikh entered the competition in 1.91, at which time they had seen, or probably did not see, 25 jumps from those who began 1.75 or 1.80. It was soon clear that it would be reduced to a shooting or jump between those two. It was probably an advantage for Olysagers that was jumping before Mahuchikh and capable of pressing, well, maybe.

Then the intrigue entered. Both Olysagers and Mahuchikh cleared 1.91, jumped 1.93 and cleared 1.95. Surprisingly, some Olysagers omitted 1.97 condemned Mahuchikh’s advantage. Both cleared 1.99 – Olysagers First and Mahuchikh need it to remain in terms of level.

When Olysagers cleared 2.01 in the first attempt, she was ahead again. Mahuchikh failed twice in 1.99 and chose to maintain his third attempt by 2.03. Clear neior 2.03 means that Olysagers won with 2.01.

What impressed me beyond the excellence of height jump was the period of time that passed so much interviews later, or in the Olysagers case, showing journalists, photographers and television cameras their famous notebook with all their evaluations of their jumps.

The comments of the two protagonists were the following. Yaroslava: “It was a great atmosphere here with many Ukrainians present and a very noisy support that is lovely for me. Nicola today It was better than me, but that’s fine, since we have a great relationship together in the field. We all get along and help each other. We never know who will win the day, but it’s always fun. It is interesting to see us since it is fun. It is such a great atmosphere when some jump well. We all train together, they are also friends and competitors. ”

Nicola: “That felt very good jumping in those conditions. I was soft to match the best of my season. I inspired a great inspiration competing again in World Class World Jumpers. I am handling the trip to and from Australia by allowing more time and is puncture.”

The two will not jump again against each other, until Friday in Paris.

A perfect day to appreciate the height jump ended with me sitting at dinner with Nicola Olysagers and Vashti Cunningham. Before saying, yes, I know how privileged I am.
