THE FACT THAT? HEINZ-GLAS has inaugurated a new electric glass melting furnace at its plant in Kleintettau, Germany.

THE DETAILS The new oven, called “Josephine”, represents an investment of approximately €13 million and replaces an older unit after a 14-week construction process. The project involved dismantling the previous furnace and installing hundreds of tons of new materials. The electric furnace is powered entirely by CO₂-free electricity, in line with the company’s broader transition to all-electric glass melting at its German plants from 2024. Production has already begun, marking a major milestone in the company’s manufacturing operations.

THE WHY? The investment supports HEINZ-GLAS’ sustainability strategy by reducing emissions and modernizing production infrastructure, while ensuring long-term efficiency and competitiveness in glass manufacturing.
