THE FACT THAT? Shopify suffered a multi-hour outage on Cyber Monday, impacting key back-end tools for merchants during one of the busiest online shopping days of the year.

THE DETAILS Between approximately 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. ET, thousands of merchants temporarily lost access to Shopify’s back-office features, including inventory tracking, POS systems, and order management, although consumer-facing stores remained active. The disruption came as Adobe projected $14.2 billion in Cyber Monday spending in the U.S. and online sales continued to outpace in-store traffic.

THE WHY? The incident highlights the operational risk retailers face when platform outages occur during peak operations, particularly for beauty and personal care brands that rely on real-time inventory and fulfillment visibility.
