The former Rugby player Shane Donovan Moore was sentenced to two and a half years in a federal prison in the United States for defrauding more than 40 investors of $ 900,000 in a cryptographic mining ponzi scheme.

According to an announcement from the Department of Justice on Thursday, Moore operated Quantum LLC from January 2021 to October 2022. Through the company, according to reports, it defrauded more than 40 investors of more than $ 900,000.

While promoting the scheme, Moore said that the funds collected would be spent on cryptocurrency mining hardware. Promised daily returns of investors or 1%.

“Mr. Moore used the novelty of the cryptocurrency to commit a scheme of Ode Age-a fraud,” said US prosecutor. UU., Teal Luthy Miller.

The end of a long battle

Officials of the United States Department of Justice accused Moore of fraud since March 2024. The authorities said he pale the connections “of his rugby activities” to find investors.

Instead of acquiring mining hardware, Moore, according to reports, used investor money to finance a luxurious lifestyle. Buy luxury apartments, designer and electronic luggage, using new investor funds to pay the previous ones, typical in Ponzi schemes.

The American District Judge Tana Lin in Seattle said that “it caused emotional and psychological damage to the victims” in addition to financial losses.

The last Crypto Ponzi scheme of many

The case of Moore is far from being the only one in which the cryptography was rolled to attract the victims to a fraud or a Ponzi scheme. In mid -February, an American regulator accused a man from Las Vegas of allegedly defrauding 400 investors of $ 24 million through a deceptive investment of cryptographic mining promoted by AI who was a plan disguised as Ponzi.

At the end of January, Antonia Pérez Hernández, a promoter of the Crypto Ponzi scheme who declared himself guilty of conspiracy to commit electronic fraud, was sentenced to more than two years in prison.

At the end of 2024, a former 86 -year -old California lawyer was sentenced to five years of probation and was ordered to pay almost $ 14 million after admitting that he has a multi -million dollar Ponzi crypto scheme.
