Nowadays I’m a big fan of cereal, but when I was a kid I didn’t eat much cereal, at least not for breakfast. When I ate cereal, it wasn’t the sugary brands marketed to kids because my parents didn’t buy it. Now, as an adult, Cheerios, Kashi, and hot oatmeal are my favorites, but lately, Magic Spoon has made its way into my rotation, with one flavor in particular standing out above the rest. But we’ll get to that.
What is Magic Spoon cereal and what makes it so special?
Let me tell you the facts.
Magic Spoon’s claim to fame is that it’s healthy and similar to the cereal you enjoyed as a kid, just without all the sugar. Magic Spoon cereal has an impressive nutritional panel, so you’ll feel good eating it or sharing it with your kids. With nothing artificial, it’s also high in protein, gluten-free, low-carb, grain-free, non-GMO, and has zero grams of sugar.
So, is Magic Spoon cereal healthy? Yeah! Instead of sugar, Magic Spoon is sweetened with monk fruit extract and allulose, which its website explains “is a ‘rare’ sugar found in things like figs and maple syrup. It tastes just like ‘regular’ sugar, but has almost zero glycemic impact and almost zero calories (less than 0.4 cal/g).”
Each serving has approximately 13 grams of protein that comes from the milk protein blend (whey protein isolate and casein).
The hype about Magic Spoon cereal intrigued me, especially the tagline “kids’ cereal for adults,” so I bought a box and was impressed.
I first noticed two things about Magic Spoon cereal before even opening the box: the fun, brightly colored package design and the size of the box. No, it’s not cheap and it brought me back to my days at NYU where I would happily buy Cheerios for $10 at Gristede’s in New York because there were no cheaper options.
A box of Magic Spoon weighs 7 ounces, so it’s not a big box. They say each box contains 5 servings, but in reality, you’ll get about 3 bowls with each box unless you have a very small serving. Four if you’re lucky if you’re serving a snack-sized bowl. But 5 servings, no way.
What flavors does Magic Spoon come in?
They have 6 flavors And the top 4 staples you get in a variety pack are: Peanut butter, glazed, fruity and cocoa. The cereal pieces are little O shapes, like Cheerios.
They also have Blueberry and Cinnamon. I’ve tried all of them except the Blueberry.

Are Magic Spoon cereal flavors good? Here are my thoughts:
Peanut butter: Perfect for PB lovers. Strong nutty flavor. It tastes great mixed with cocoa to change it up.
Frosty: The sweetest smelling and tasting offering of the bunch and it just wasn’t for me.
Tasty: Smells and tastes just like Froot Loops. It’s not overpowering or artificial, nor too sweet. Colorful and DELICIOUS!!!!
Cocoa: Strong, rich chocolate smell out of the box, but upon tasting, the chocolate flavor is more moderate, not overpowering or too sweet. Excellent.
Cinnamon: Smells delicious like a cinnamon bun with a moderately sweet crunch and nothing overpowering.
What is the best Magic Spoon flavor?
Tasty. Definitely. If you are looking for the answer to “Is Magic Spoon cereal good?”, the answer is YES. Go with fruit!
My answer here on which is the best Magic Spoon flavor even surprised me because I thought I would love peanut butter or cinnamon…but no. The fruity flavor is exactly the same as what I remember Froot Loops being. However, they do not have any sweet or artificial taste. Simply a solid and tasty cereal that lives up to its fruity name. It’s the best magic spoon flavor and doesn’t taste weird at all.
Here’s how I rank Magic Spoon flavors from best to worst based on my personal tastes:
Fruity, cinnamon, peanut butter, cocoa, ice cream
NOTE: If you are not used to eating foods with protein powder, certain flavors may give you a slight aftertaste. I found this to be the case with the sweetest flavor, Frosted. It smelled a little sweet out of the box and the aftertaste wasn’t very good, like some protein bars or protein shakes. But Frosted is my dad’s favorite flavor, so different strokes for different people. It may also depend on the type of milk you use. But I wanted to make sure to mention this in my Magic Spoon review for those of you sensitive to aftertastes. There was no Fruity aftertaste, FYI.
