Spencer Fano, offensive lineman, Utah.
This is a bit of a frustrating board with three of Beatdown’s favorite prospects (plus fan favorite Olaivavega Ioane) in the four picks above, but Fano is the No. 9 prospect in The Baltimore Beatdown Big Board and an excellent value for the 14th overall pick. He started at both tackle spots at Utah, but has been tipped for a move to the interior due to his sub-33-inch arms. That will work well for the Ravens, who currently lack steady starters at center and right guard. Fano spent time working at center during the pre-draft process, and it would be ideal if he could make the switch and start there as a rookie. Otherwise, he’ll play well at guard in Declan Doyle’s scheme, perhaps with the potential to move to center once he has the position’s top spots under his belt.
That’s a small projection for a first-round pick, but whether at guard or center, Fano profiles as a long-term starter with plenty of upside due to his athleticism, power and bully mentality. The Ravens need all of those things along their offensive line, and Fano’s ability to kick and tackle in a pinch makes him even more valuable.
