Who won medals for Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics?
Here we’ll take a deeper look at each Team USA medalist.
Breezy Johnson: gold, women’s downhill
Breezy Johnson’s dream of competing in the 2022 Winter Olympics ended in Cortina four years ago.
Now he has a gold medal.
Johnson suffered a devastating accident at the Tofane Alpine Ski Center in Cortina during training four years ago, an accident that partially dislodged a large piece of cartilage from his right knee. As a result, she had to withdraw from the 2022 Beijing Olympics. But she conquered Cortina in the women’s downhill to secure a gold medal and the first medal for Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Team USA: Team Figure Skating
The United States won its second gold medal in the team figure skating competition.
And it was a narrow victory over Japan.
The event came down to a battle between the last two men’s skaters: Ilia Malinin of the United States and Shun Sato of Japan. Malinin had lost in the short program to Yuma Kagiyama early in the competition, who was replaced by Sato as the long program is considered his strong point. And although Malinin had a disappointing performance with her long program (her result was her lowest free skate score in her last five competitions), it was enough to lift the United States to a 69-68 victory over Japan.
Ben Ogden: cross-country skiing
A decades-long drought for Team USA in cross-country skiing has ended.
Ben Ogden took silver in the cross-country skiing sprint on Tuesday, becoming just the second American men’s cross-country skier to win an Olympic medal, and the first in 50 years.
Bill Koch took silver in the 50K classic at the 1976 Winter Olympics. As fate would have it, Ogden began his own journey in cross-country skiing in the Bill Koch Youth Ski League. Ogden finished with a time of 3:40, one second behind gold medalist Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo of Norway.
Alex Hall: freestyle skiing
Alex Hall’s attempt to repeat the freeski slopestyle gold medal fell short, as he was beaten by Norway’s Birk Ruud by 86.28 to 85.75. Hall’s second run brought him within half a point of Ruud, but he was unable to catch him on his final run.
With the silver medal, Team USA has secured seven of the 12 medals in the history of the event.
Jacqueline Wiles/Paula Moltzan: alpine combination
As expected, Team USA took home a medal in the women’s combined.
But it was not the couple that many expected to see.
Team USA favorites Breezy Johnson and Mikaela Shiffrin were competing for gold as expected, after Johnson performed the fastest descent. But Shiffrin, winner of seven of eight slaloms this season, only finished 15th in her portion of the event, leaving the pair out of medal contention.
They missed out on bronze by 0.06 seconds.
Instead, that bronze went to Team USA pair Jacqueline Wiles and Paula Moltzan.
