Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg fought through her career for women’s rights: “based on sex.” But from the “sexual” marrow in “gender” three decades ago, the entire area of sexual rights has become unfocused. In the United Kingdom, suddenly they have been unpleasant and, legally, of course.
In a historical ruling, the UK Supreme Court established last week that the words “sex” and “woman” refer only to biological sex when it comes to laws of equality and language. The implications of this historical failure will feel not only in the United Kingdom, but throughout the world. It is the first time that a legal decision has reaffirmed the rights based on sex that we were in danger of losing completely.
Sex is binary and immutable. Women’s rights derive from biological factors and their reproductive role. The United Kingdom Supreme Court has analyzed absurd as “pregnant men” and “male lesbians” and said: “no.”
What changes can we expect from this failure? First, the United Kingdom Transport Police, which until last week insisted that male officers who “identify” as women can look for women, have immediately reversed their position. The cases involving nurses who oppose themselves to wake up with male colleagues that “irromatic” as women can now quickly resolve. These nurses will now be entitled to a single -sex costume.
More widely, I hope that the ruling efforts of the efforts of the pockets teach children that some people “are born in the wrong body” and/or could benefit from pediatric gender medicine (“gender statement care”). It is not possible to change sex. And the growing movement to protect the athletics of women and girls from the incursions of men who “identify” how women will probably also collect steam.
The detailed ruling of 88 pages of the United Kingdom Supreme Court eliminates the entire facade of “identifying” as the opposite sex. The gender identity doctrine is a set of regressive and misogynist beliefs that faces women’s rights. The diagnosis of “gender dysphoria” is always based on sexist stereotypes that many of us, the feminists of the old school, thought we had eradicated in the 1980s.
“Hello, he likes to wear dresses and play with barbies.” “He likes to maintain his short hair and enjoys roughHofusing with children.” So what? We should appreciate those children of “gender that are not formed” and encouraging their individuality, not sending them to a gender clinic. They can grow gay or lesbian. That is perfect good. They need models to follow Holy and flourishing gay and lesbians, not hormonal treatments that block the puberty that derail their development.
Once he accepts that it is impossible to change sex, everything falls into place. Except for those who see this ruling as an attack on their rights. We are listening to distressed reactions from those rooms. One wrote in X that the ruling had left it “disconsolate.” Another wrote: “Today, for the first time, I’m afraid to get out of my forehead.”
But the real misfortune is that such activists have encouraged to see the issue themselves as part of a civil rights movement in the first place. In fact, “no civil rights movement in history has requested rights as another kind of people,” says feminist philosopher Jane Clare Jones. She couldn’t be more successful!
Sex -based rights are important for gays and lesbians. Sexual orientation is about if men, women or both attract you. How people “identify” are Neith here or there. Kate Harris and I founded the LGB Alliance in 2019 because inherited homosexual rights organizations such as the United Kingdom Stonewall, Glaad, HRC and ACLU had abandoned us. We were the first LGB organization in the world to reject gender identity doctrine.
We intervened the case of the United Kingdom Supreme Court in support of sexual rights, and the judges totally agreed. When I read in the ruling that was forced to admit heterosexual men who “identify” as women in lesbian spaces make the concept of “meaningless” sexual orientation, and result in “inevitable loss of autonomy and dignity for lesbians” – I. We had a sea of the legs. Finally!
Political poliazization of sex and gender problems in the United States surely has to end. Whatever people think of President Trump, his executive order indicating that there are two sexes was innovative and essential. Biological sex is key to women’s rights, and for the rights of lesbians and homosexual men. Yesterday, the UK Supreme Court showed that it understood that. I hope this message now reaches every corner of the world.
