The Colossal squid, the wide species of the world, was captured in video for the first time swimming in its natural habitat, according to a research organization of the California ocean.

This squid, as the name implies, can grow up to 23 feet long and 1,100 pounds, heavy invertebrate in the world, according to the Schmidt Ocean Institute. But the creature that the institute caught in the video was a youth lasting.

It was recorded on March 9 near the Sandwich South Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean at a depth of almost 2,000 feet, according to a press release from the non -profit organization. The squid was formally named and identified in 1925, but had the leg recorded alive until this case.

El Calamar, an officer appointed Mesonychoteuthis HamiltonYoDuration registered a 35 -day expedition that aimed to find a new marine life, according to the launch. The scientists aboard the Falkor Research Ship of the Institute captured the Calamar video with its remotely called auction vehicle.

The squid lose their transparent bodies as they age, and the morbundos adults have previously registered by the fishermen, but a colossal squid had seen before the leg alive at so much depth.

“It is exciting to see the first in Sitage images of a youthful and humble colossal to think that they have no idea that humans exist,” said Kat Bolstad, from the Technological University of Auckland in the launch. Bolstad was consulted to verify the video, according to the institute. “For 100 years, we have found them mainly as prey that remains in the stomach of whale and the coast and as predators or dental fish harvested.”

Duration an expedition of January, the team also captured a video for the first time from the glass glacial squid (called Galiteuthis Glacialis), According to the Institute. That creature has also not seen alive before in its natural environment.

“The first sighting of two different squid in consecutive expeditions is remarkable and shows how little we have seen of the magnificent inhabitants of the southern ocean,” Jyotika Virmani, executive of the Executive of the Schmidt Institute.
