Elon Musk joined as one of the first investors of the car company Tesla In 2004, it later became CEO and product architect in 2008. Taking the technology, pushed the company and increased the brand and the following. Using the expanded platform, it has become a global player and has now joined the current administration. But what about Elon Musk and the future potential of legal cannabis?
Elon Musk, known for his thirst and controversial business moments, has an intriguing relationship with cannabis that has occasionally crossed with political discussions. While Musk smoked the duration of marijuana, an appearance in 2018 in the Joe Rogan industry champion in his podcast, then clarified that he did not inhale and maintained a cautious posture about drug use in professional environments. This an incident lash led NASA to investigate the security of the SpaceX workplace due to its federal contracts.
Despite the thesis controversies, Musk has used support occasionally with the voice of cannabis related reforms. In 2024, he tweeted on the need for a reform of criminal justice, particularly highlighting the cannabis paradox that is considered “essential” that burns the Covid-19 Pandemia, while many individuals rolled up imprisoned by crimes related to marijuana. Their comments aligned with broader calls for the reform of defenders as the last prison project.
However, Musk’s position on cannabis policy is still complex. As head of the Government Efficiency Department (Doge) under the Trump administration, their actions have not constantly supported the reform. For example, Dege recently canceled federal funds for a study on the risks of using cannabis among marginalized groups and advocated mandatory federal employee drug tests. In addition, Musk has not publicly defended the efforts of federal or decriminalization legalization, also as figures such as Senator Elizabeth Wars urged him to stop federal application actions in states with regulated markets as a cost savings measure.
Musk’s influence could be fundamental to shape cannabis policy. Organizations such as Weed for Warriors have asked them to support initiatives that address challenges in the California cannabis industry, including tax increases that threaten veteran access to medicinal marijuana. His ability to influence opinion and public policy, reinforced by his role in Doge, positions him as a possible defender of the reform if he chooses to participate more actively.
Ultimately, although Musk occasionally flirts with the culture of cannabis and the rhetoric of the reform, its actions suggest a cautious approach instead of absolute support for federal legalization or changes in policies. If he will take advantage of his considerable influence to boost significant reform remains uncertain.
