Mom charged in girl’s drowning was in a ‘deep depression,’ fiancé says

A mother alleged by the authorities drowned her 7 -year -old daughter in a Van Nuys department this month was accused of murder, prosecutors announced on Tuesday.

Prosecutors also accused Graciela Castellanos37, or NUYS with assault for a serious crime of a child under 8 years, according to a press release from the Los Angeles County District Office. The authorities claim that Castellanos drowned his daughter, identified as Rebecca Castellanos, on April 11.

An autopsy determined that the girl died of Asperhyxia due to the compression of the neck and drowning, according to the forensic doctor of the Los Angeles County.

Castellanos declared himself not guilty on Tuesday, authorities said. She remains in custody instead or a bail of $ 2 million.

If it is convicted, Castellanos faces a sentence of maximum 25 years to life imprisonment.
