Pete Alonso was the rookie of the year of the National League in 2019, when he launched 53 homers.
He led the largest in battered races in 2022, when he finished eighth in the MVP vote.
It was an All-Star in 2023 and ’24.
But through a remarkable race in the big leagues that sees it in Darryl Strawberry for the franchise home runs, Alonso has never felt better on the dish than at this time.
The last time he felt this locked up?
“Perhaps the junior year of the University,” said the proud product of the University of Florida, who turned that huge junior year that reached .374 with 14 homers in 58 games, in a second round of the Mets.
Your PAHO that year: 1,128.
His PAHO for 21 games this season: 1,220, which is better than all in the major leagues, except Aaron Judge.
A few shaky games have become a few round -round weeks for Alonso, which does not show signs of deceleration.
Alonso led two thirds of the METs races in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over the cardinals in Citi Fieldwhere he brought the offensive again.
Francisco Lindor, as special as it is, has an OPS of .683.
Juan Soto, who is beginning to look better on the plate, has A.787 OPS.
The only one with Saturday’s alignment with a better brand that .700 was Luisangel Acuña (.714).
The Mets have desperately needed Alonso, and he has responded.
In the third entry, after the single RBI of Sotos broke into a goals without goals, Alonso crushed a double RBI in the center of the left.
The Mets did not score again until Alonso had an opportunity in the eighth entrance, when he demolished his sixth homer of the season in the second deck on the left.
“He has conviction. He has a plan. He is running it,” said manager Carlos Mendoza, who has never seen Alonso so hot. “I don’t think we’ve seen this version last year, maybe towards the end and definitely in the playoffs, but I think now … it is a dangerous batter.”
A dangerous batter at the beginning of the bats to bat, double when Matthew Liberatore tried to sneak a change of 1-1 for him.
A dangerous batter in the bats, the homer came to a sixth launch sliding control to win a battle with John King.
“Errors may appear 0-0, 3-0, 0-2-does not matter,” Alonso said. “Launches can still be lost in any count.”
When they do, Alonso is not missing.
You may feel more comfortable in what would be his second year of walking, capable of choosing not to participate in a two -year contract after this season.
Maybe he is a beneficiary of Soto seeing many releases before him.
Alonso’s explanation: “I think my mechanics are super clean. I can sustain them and take them from the launch to the launch, in turn to the turn. Have a great game plan, and that is beautiful.”
Whatever the cause, the result is that a Citi field exhausted raining by the “Pete MV” channels.
“Obviously, really flattering,” Alonso said. “It’s a long season.”
