An international postgraduate student from UCLA has been arrested on the border between the United States and Mexico and is in delay in customs and border protection, the school confirmed Thursday night.
The student, whose name was not launched, was interody tasks on Wednesday night, chording for members of the faculty and students who quickly organized a campus rally in their support on Thursday night.
“UCLA learned that an international postgraduate student was arrested by customs and border protection of the United States while trying to enter the United States from Mexico,” Mary Osako, Vice Chancellor for Strategic Communications of UCLA.
“The student remains in the custody of CBP and we are actively working to learn more information. Our international students are an essential part of our brown community, and we remain completely committed to supporting their ability to learn and pass.”
The National Security Department, which supervises the CBP, could not be contacted immediately to comment.
Few details about the student were published, including their name and nationality. The faculty, and an immigration lawyer who has a leg trying to contact the student, said Thursday night that they had not yet talked to her. They added that the student was arrested at the crossroads of the border of San Ysidro to the south of San Diego and was able to reach a UCLA contact before she was under the tasks.
It is not clear why the student was in Mexico or what led to his arrest.

The Administration has not given detailed reasons for the cancellations of a visa or student registration.
Last month, the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, said that the State Department revoked visas held by visitors who acted against national interests, including some who protested the Israel War in Gaza and those who faced criminal charges.
The lawyers of several students said they said that visa and sevis cancellations were due to criminal record verifications, but their lawyers have said that the alleged violations of some students included minimal infractions such as speeding tickets. Immigration experts said such actions did not meet the level at which the visas or status of lost students under adjusted administrations, including President Trump’s first mandate.

“We have warned the university at the University that students would be detained,” said Graeme Blair, associate professor of political sciences who spoke at the rally. “We would like UCLA to defend his students.”
Ariela Gross, professor of law and history of UCLA, also went to the crowd. “We have a moral obligation … UC has a moral obligation” to defend students, he said.
