One of the best stories of the 2026 World Cup so far is, without a doubt, Scotland.
Specifically, their followers and how they have done it. captured the hearts and minds of Bostonians from North End to Back Bay and points in between.
But on the field, Scotland opened with a group stage victory over Haiti, and ahead of the matches on Friday 19 June, they have a chance to secure a place in the round of 32.

What are the current scenarios for Group C?
These are the scenarios for the start of Group C on Friday, June 19.
Scotland is the only team that can secure a place in the knockout round today. With a victory over Morocco, they are guaranteed a place in the round of 32 as one of the two best teams in Group C.
However, they will win the group and book a match between the second-place team in Group F in the round of 32 with a win over Morocco, along with a loss or draw for Brazil against Haiti. Scotland and Brazil meet in the final group match and with a win over Morocco Scotland would improve to six points. If Brazil were to lose or draw against Haiti, they would not be able to overtake Scotland in the standings, even with a victory in the final match. At most, Brazil would have five points.
On the other hand, Haiti faces elimination on Friday. If they lose, Morocco’s corresponding victory over Scotland would mean Haiti is eliminated.
The good news? Neither team can be eliminated on Friday. But neither can secure a place in the knockout round just yet.
This is how tiebreakers work in this year’s World Cup.
If two or more teams in the same group are tied on points after the group stage, a three-step process will be followed to determine tiebreakers.
In the first step, the highest number of points will be applied in the group matches between the tied teams. Then, the highest goal difference from the group matches between the tied teams will be applied, and finally, the highest number of goals scored in all group matches between the tied teams will be applied.
If that cannot determine a tiebreaker, then the teams still tied will advance to step two. At this stage, the first step is the goal difference in all group matches, then the highest number of goals in all group matches and finally the highest team conduct score (related to yellow and red cards) will be applied.
If that doesn’t break the tie, then the teams still tied on points will be ranked based on the most recent standings. FIFA World Ranking.
That first step, which according to FIFA says “the highest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams in question,” effectively becomes a head-to-head tiebreaker in the case of ties between two teams.
Tiebreakers don’t really influence the Group C matches on Friday, June 19. But depending on those results, they could come into play before the final games of this group.
